The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape (“Cornish Mining”) World Heritage Site is seeking a highly motivated historic environment or protected landscape planning specialist.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to become part of a highly motivated team who are committed to delivering high quality development that respects our internationally important historic mining landscapes and retains their distinctive character.

The purpose of the post is to provide

  • Independent specialist comment for local planning authorities, developers, key consultees such as Historic England, and the public on how development proposals affect the Site’s Outstanding Universal Value within the WHS and its setting.
  • Specialist input into planning policy development
  • Advice to planning officers and elected members on how to implement the Cornish Mining Supplementary Planning Document.

You will primarily cover the WHS areas in Cornwall, but will also work closely with colleagues in Devon County and West Devon Borough Councils and WHS Partnership member agencies such as the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty to ensure that the Management Plan spatial planning and development management policies are consistently applied across all planning authorities.

To be considered for this rewarding role, you will have a recognised degree level qualification in planning, conservation or a related subject and be eligible for membership of Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) or Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC).

You will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of planning policy at national and local level and extensive knowledge of planning and historic environment conservation practice, legislation and guidance. You will need excellent written and verbal communication and exceptional organisational and negotiating skills.
