Job Type
Lansdowne Biotechnics Limited are looking for a self-propelled RF engineer with the drive and determination to build something completely new that helps to make the world a better place.

Job Description

Lansdowne Biotechnics Limited has an exciting opportunity for a Radio Frequency Technician  to join an Innovate UK funded project for 18 months, to build a commercial demonstrator of a chemical-free pest control system using novel electronics and physical principles.

We will be creating something completely new and of great benefit to the environment! Working on novel technologies in magnetic resonance the successful candidate will be able to interact with academic leaders in the technology working to realise a commercial demonstrator of a proven conceptual design in Agri-Tech.

The Agri-Tech sector is an exciting place to be at the moment with many innovations led by climate change and maintaining food security for the world whilst minimising the impact on the environment by reducing the chemicals used in food production. Increasing agricultural crop yields is something that the world desperately needs and will have a positive impact on the climate. This innovation will work without using chemicals, and hence without developing resistance in the pests.

The successful applicant will be tasked with building the power electronics to an existing design that produces 100-800W at VHF/UHF.  Building the magnetic resonator unit to a novel, patented design that is quite extraordinary in its predicted performance. Over the 18month programme the project will start from a simple test-bed design, to get the basics right learning vital lessons, and then move through stages of increasing sophistication towards a final prototype that will be used against real-world pests!

This is a very exciting opportunity for the right person to join a team right at the start and build a career and reputation for themselves supported by mentors and a management team with a proven record of accomplishment.

The role will be based in the  brand new Enterprise Space for Advance Manufacturing in St. Austell.

We are looking for a Graduate in a closely related engineering discipline, or with relevant experience of building power electronics.

The skills of particular benefit would be:

  • Mathematical ability
  • Experience of CAD and computer simulation - particularly Comsol for predictive modelling and Solidworks for mechanical design

  • Working largely on your own, but in a busy building with other companies operating, you will need to be a self-starter who is able to operate remotely from management.

Company Description

Lansdowne Biotechnics is a new start up company owned by David Lansdowne.

He has a track record of innovation in IVF having led the product development for Research Instruments for 20 years. Has built a team from the ground up to 100 people and has great plans for the business of LB.

There is a wide range of technologies coming into the business ranging from this Agri-Tech innovation, to Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical and BioCosmetics. The one thread that runs through everything LB does is that it makes the world a better place. “Doing the right thing” is very easy to say, but getting that balance right takes a team of collaborators all pushing in the same direction.
