Job Description

The post holder will undertake specific activities to encourage and support increased innovation in the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly economy, working with existing innovation support provision and key partners, particularly with government, government functions, higher education providers and the business community.

The post holder will identify priorities for projects, intervention and support, with specific reference to Vision 2030, the strategic economic plan for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Within the broad purpose of the role to support increased innovation the post holder will lead the development of high profile projects which enable the clean growth element of emerging economic strategy to be delivered.

The post holder will be required to provide leadership for all elements of the energy strand of the Cornwall Deal, which includes work involving the electricity grid, storage, community energy, deep geothermal, energy efficiency and enterprise zones.

Alongside colleagues the post holder will engage regularly with the full breadth of the business community from small young start-up to established large business, emphasising and evidencing the LEPs support for and advocacy of business in Cornwall and Scilly.

The post holder will ensure that this work is taken forward in a timely fashion, delivering key objectives against the programme milestones.

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months to cover secondment  and may represent a suitable secondment opportunity for existing Cornwall Council employees. If you wish to be considered for a secondment, please obtain your manager’s permission before applying.

About you

The post holder will have a good understand of energy issues, with a particular focus on community energy. Experience of working with business and with higher education partner.

You will have a good understanding of developing supply arrangements. The post holder will also have a good understanding of European and national funding structures and programmes.
