Attracting great design talent is crucial to maintaining Rugged’s position as the leader in interactive fitness technology; in fact design is at the very core of our business.

Having a strong background in graphic design for all channels and media, you will be involved in the creation and development of product branding, as well as technical instructions, installation guides, all the way through to manufacture and marketing.

This is a pivotal position within our organisation as it maintains the overview, coordinating activities with product design, production and marketing.

The role requires designers to work at a quick pace and make intelligent design decisions in relation to the Rugged brand as well as manufacturing costs and feasibility. Good project management skills are required, as is the ability to support the wider team whilst being able to work successfully with minimal supervision and knowing when to ask the right questions.

About You

You’ll be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable creative, having experience as a professional graphic designer within commercial environments in a number of previous roles where you have had a broader overview and possibly some responsibility of all or some of the activities which interface with graphic design, so that you’ll be able to hit the ground running.

You’ll be a confident communicator and have a forensic eye for detail, accuracy as well as the ability to see projects through to completion.  You’ll have excellent organisational skills, and experience of working with manufacturers is crucial, as is a solid knowledge of appropriate programmes such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign and a good understanding website design through Wordpress or Wix.

You’ll be able to perceive an individual brand’s character and know how to reflect this through design. You’ll be creatively and technically adaptable with a strong background in taking a hands-on approach to managing multiple, varied and sometimes complex projects, working across departments and liaising at times with end customers.

You’ll need to have a level of spontaneity and be flexible in your approach. Some travel to other sites or visiting customers for which any necessary time off in lieu will be agreed in advance.

Responsibilities:

  • Designing creative graphics and marketing material; for digital, print and production.
  • Designing and preparing artworks for Rugged Interactive products.
  • Maintaining the company website: www.rugged-interactive.co.uk, including SEO.
  • Creating and maintaining installation and instruction manuals and other documentation.
  • Managing all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn) and delivering digital marketing content.
  • Administering the mailing database via Solve 360.
  • Designing, scheduling and distributing email newsletters via MailChimp.
  • Assisting in the organization and logistics of international shipments.
  • Using UX and UI design for Rugged Interactive software (FitMakr Pro, Coach Cards).
  • Monitoring and updating the Production Order Plan in Excel (POP).
  • Creating video content to promote products and case studies.
  • Attending trade shows; engaging with prospective customers and demonstrating equipment.
  • Contributing to product development from initial idea generation through to prototyping, product assembly and testing.
  • Contributing to product training and product repair; all roles are involved in this to continually improve our products.

You’ll Need:

  • A degree level or equivalent level qualification in a design-centered course.
  • Commercial design experience.
  • A portfolio of previous designs, projects and accomplishments which you’ll be asked to showcase as part of the shortlisting and interviewing process.
  • A strong design awareness (e.g. a solid understanding of layout design).
  • Hands on knowledge of website design, email newsletter design and SEO; possibly with experience with WIX and MailChimp.
  • To be proficient with all social media channels; experience of Hootsuite is desirable.
  • To be highly skilled and adept in Adobe Creative Suite (CC); Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office: specifically, Microsoft Excel.
  • A good understanding of UI and UX concepts.
  • Experience in the organisation of international shipments is desirable.
  • Knowledge of CRM systems is desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge of HTML is desirable but not required.
