We are looking for a Graduate Building Surveyor to join our team in Truro to assist us with on-going surveying projects – specifically working on historic and listed buildings throughout the county.

Job Description


You will work with the current team to prepare surveys, reports, plans and specifications as required, and undertake contract administration work for a range of projects from inception to completion. 

What we need you to do:

You will be expected to draw up specifications, plans and tenders. You will administer projects on site, ensuring they are completed on time and on budget. You will advise clients and determine their requirements – advising on energy efficiency, environmental impact, sustainable construction and disability access. You will provide advice and guidance as required on Listed Building matters. You will identify building defects and recommend rectification works, repairs and improvements. Initially, you will be fully guided and supported  with a view to you  taking on tasks independently as your experience grows.

Other work the practice undertakes and you could be involved with includes:

  • Preparing documents for tender
  • Advising on contractors, designers and procurement routes
  •  Advising on the management and supervision of maintenance buildings
  • Dealing with listed building, planning and building regulations applications
  • Understanding and advising on property legislation
  • Advising on construction design and management regulations
  • Undertaking principle designer role
  • Undertaking building surveys and recommending further works
  • Negotiating dilapidations
  • Carrying out feasibility studies
  • Advising on Health & Safety aspects of buildings
  • Preparing insurance assessments and claims

Qualifications & experience:

  •  A degree (2:1) in Building Surveying
  • Project management understanding and preferably experience
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Full driving licence and own transport essential due to the nature of work
  • Team player
  • Ideally experience in the construction industry (on or off site)
