Do you have a passion for helping people to have a voice in improving service delivery in health and social care, especially those who are carers for family or friends, or those with autism and/or a learning disability?

Job Description

We are looking to appoint someone who can work with the Partnership Boards that Healthwatch Cornwall facilitates, engaging on issues and strategies relating to Learning Disabilities, Carers, Autism and Older Persons. We need someone who can take on a piece of work and run with it between meetings, helping to make sure that needs, interests and aspirations are heard in order for people to live healthy and meaningful lives.

Board membership includes both professionals and those with lived experience.  The postholder will be communicating with Board Chairs, Cornwall Council, NHS and voluntary organisations as well as the Board members.  It will involve facilitating engagement in, and development of, health and social care strategies and plans in line with local requirements and the NHS Long Term Plan.

It’s important to keep in touch with ongoing and emerging issues and to ensure diverse representation including from people whose experiences are not being heard.  Direct engagement with and support for self-advocates with learning disabilities and/or autism is a key element of the role.

We welcome applications from those with lived experience either for themselves or family members and friends.  If you would like an informal chat about the role, please contact Mike Hooper on 07880 782636.

Company Description

Healthwatch Cornwall is part of a network of over 150 local Healthwatch across the country. We’re here to listen to the issues that really matter to people in Cornwall.

We are the local health and social care champion for the people of Cornwall. From Saltash to Penzance and everywhere in between, we make sure NHS leaders and other decision makers hear peoples voices and use their feedback to improve care.

For everyone who uses GPs and hospitals, dentists, pharmacies, care homes or other support services in Cornwall, we want to hear people's experiences. We are independent and have the power to make sure NHS leaders and other decision makers listen to local feedback and improve standards of care. We can also help people to find reliable and trustworthy information and advice. Last year, the Healthwatch network helped nearly a million people to have their say and get the support they needed.
