Job Description

Ocean Group is a local housing provider based in St Austell, Cornwall who is the parent company for Ocean Housing and Gilbert & Goode. We manage over 4,500 homes and have ambitious plans to build 3,000 homes by 2030 and we are looking for a Development Officer within our Commissioning team on a permanent basis who will work with the Head of Commissioning to develop and implement the Company’s strategy for residential development.

The Role

You will be an active member of the Development department to support the work and tasks which include scheme openings, maintaining programme management information, carry out community consultations, managing defect processes and managing adoption processes.

In particular you will support Development Managers in particular schemes which would include deputising where appropriate at project meetings or performing the role of client representative through the development process.

In addition you would effectively project manage a portfolio of new build schemes from conception through to various approval processes, design stages, construction period and post scheme evaluation to ensure the development objectives are reached.

About You

You will have an understanding of social housing and an awareness of the development of residential housing and in addition understand the socio-economic and political factors as they relate to housing in the UK. You will be able to work in a methodical, accurate and systematic manner to enable all processes are complete effectively and efficiently and are able to work independently on specific tasks as well as within the team. A knowledge and understanding of risk as it relates to development and an understanding of regeneration is desirable but not essential.

The postholder would in addition need to have the ability to transport oneself to various locations around the county.

You will have an HND or equivalent Level 5 qualification in any discipline. A degree level 6 qualification and an appropriate qualification in a planning, construction or development related discipline is desirable, but not essential.
