Due to sustained growth, we require a part-time bookkeeper to join our friendly, dynamic and highly-skilled team. The ideal candidate will be well-organised and comfortable dealing with financial data.

Job Description

Deliver bookkeeping services to the business, produce management reports and other financial information, and provide front of house and administrative support for the team.

Accountabilities

Bookkeeping and Accountancy:

  • Sales and Purchase Ledger: posting invoices, allocating payments, and checking supplier statements
  • Financial processes such as bank reconciliation, credit control, and maintaining client and supplier accounts
  • Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns, and statutory accounts and tax
  • Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations
  • Assist with month-end and year-end procedures
  • Recommend changes that improve the company’s financial performance and controls

Payroll:

  • Prepare Payroll information for issue to external payroll bureau (or bring in-house)

Reporting:

  • Compile and issue month-end and quarterly management reports
  • Provide project accounting and expenses reporting support as required

General Administration:

  • Be the first point of contact for the accounts department responding to calls, emails and queries
  • Manage insurances, building rental, utilities, and benefits portal administration for the company
  • Administer incoming and outgoing mail; monitor general info and accounts emails
  • Provide general administrative support to management and team, and provide cover during annual leave

Other duties:

  • The job holder may be asked to undertake other tasks and duties as requested by your line manager, to contribute to the success of the business.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Relevant qualifications (CIMA, ACCA, or AAT) - Desirable
  • Relevant qualification in bookkeeping/business administration/computer skills - Desirable
  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper - Essential
  • Experience in using Xero Accounting - Desirable
  • Knowledge and application of Payroll, VAT, CIS, and HMRC - Desirable
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint - Essential
  • Experience in using shared collaborative tools such as Smartsheet and Office 365 - Desirable
  • Methodical and systematic approach to work and time management - Essential
  • Attention to detail - Essential
  • Creative in finding solutions to problems - Desirable
  • Strong verbal communication skills (in English) - Essential
  • Strong written communication skills (in English) - Essential
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 processes - Desirable

  • Able to teamwork and collaborate remotely - Essential
  • Comfortable to learn and utilise new technologies - Essential

Kernow Controls Ltd based in Penryn, Cornwall, specialise in the design, supply and installation of automated smoke control and BEMS systems, including our highly qualified service and maintenance programme. We have a wealth of experience in the BMS industry; from small projects to multimillion BMS system design and maintenance contracts.
