Job Description

Seasalt is a growing lifestyle retailer, with over 50 shops and 400 stockists around the UK. As well as the growth of our online channel, we’re also opening new shops, so our merchandising team have a key role to play in ensuring we continue to inspire and excite both existing and new customers.

As an assistant merchandiser based at our head office team you will be play a key role in driving the planning, forecasting and trading of each season’s range using your strong analysis skills. Looking at previous sales to plan for the future, you’ll support the merchandiser to achieve agreed sales and profit targets and work with the Assistant Buyer to support the creation of each range.

Key responsibilities

  • Collate information for the Range Plan, for all sales channels, and provide to the Merchandiser. Assist with line level forecasting based on historical sales
  • Through actualising and forecasting of the line monitors, make recommendations to place new orders
  • Proactively identify blocks of product to create forecasting models
  • Work with supply chain, distribution centre and merchandising assistants, to ensure smooth and efficient flow of stock into the warehouse and out to stores to meet launch dates
  • Assess channel performance, key driving categories and best and worst selling lines and suggest appropriate course of action to merchandiser to maximise sales
  • Provide management to merchandising assistants, including application of commercial judgement and review of allocation channels and parameters
  • Ensure all relevant tasks are completed in line with the Critical Path including issuance of accurate supplier purchase orders
  • Work with the Merchandiser to understand and actualise commitment, sales, markdown and open to buy on the WSSI
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of trading – review sales, react to performance, consider external factors, manage risk and maximise best sellers
  • Create price change models (either markdown or promo), under the supervision of Merchandiser, as a reaction to current trade
  • Work with the merchandiser to build and update relevant seasonal reports
  • Support the merchandiser in collating all relevant information to monitor the departmental margin, commitment and intake phasing
  • Develop merchandising assistants as future assistant merchandisers to be able to maximise internal progression
  • Identify store visit opportunities

What we're looking for

In order to do this you will need to be highly numerate and confident in working with data and Excel. Your commercial aptitude will be key, as will the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast paced environment. You’ll have a strong team work ethic, diplomatic, well organised and a strong communicator.

You will have previous experience in a merchandising function, with strong commercial aptitude and excellent problem solving skills. Retail experience would also be advantageous. 

You will also be required to represent Seasalt Ltd and promote its brand image through all activities and will also need to keep confidential all knowledge of company business, finance and statistics. You must also have the ability to be flexible in order to work additional hours to suit the needs of the business.
