At Bickerstaff & Co Chartered Accountants, we pride ourselves on offering an approachable and friendly service to our clients. As our firm continues to grow our team is expanding and we are now looking for new Accounts Staff for our Hayle office.

Job Description

We use a full range of IT systems and software to streamline our processes and ensure that we are a dynamic and flexible workforce  We have a full range of clients from small sole traders to Limited Companies, retail shops to building companies so our work is varying and interesting. 

Your duties in this varied and interesting practice role will include:

  • Year end accounts preparation for a mix of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
  • Tax and VAT return preparation
  • Management accounting
  • Bookkeeping and management accounts
  • Offering sound advice to clients and resolving queries
  • Assisting clients with their online accounting software

You must have strong technical expertise in statutory accounting and taxation ideally gained in a practice setting. You will be expected to work independently to prepare sole trader and limited company accounts and prepare Self-Assessment and Corporation Tax computations to review stage as this will be the main function of your role. You may well have completed AAT though we are happy to consider applications from non-qualified candidate if you have the relevant experience. We encourage personal development and would be happy to support a candidate who is looking to progress their qualifications towards becoming a chartered accountant.

You will need to enjoy the customer facing aspects of your role, and have the confidence and interpersonal skills to build relationships with clients ranging from sole traders through to the directors of limited companies. You must be comfortable answering the phone and dealing with clients as you will be expected to help them with queries either over the phone or in person if they drop into the office.

You must be happy using a variety of IT systems and be willing to learn how to use new systems where necessary. Along with our technical software and bookkeeping software which includes, Quickbooks, Xero and Sage, we use HubSpot, Slack, Dropbox  and Google suite amongst others. We strive for a paperless office so we encourage all staff and our clients to use available software to minimise paper handing as much as possible.

Our team is fun and very supportive and we work closely together so you will need to be a good team player and a good communicator. The role is predominantly to be office based from 9am to 5pm and we have found that it is often easier and more constructive to work from the office. However, our systems are fully flexible to enable home working and we realise that 9-5 doesn’t work best for everyone so we are more than happy to consider options to flex to your needs, whether that be the times worked or the location.

The ideal candidate would have:

Our ideal candidate is sufficiently experienced in preparing accounts and basic tax returns that they can hit the ground running and get stuck in. You must be happy to work in a close knit team and you must have a “can-do” attitude and be happy to work to deadlines. There will be times where you need to work flexibly and put more hours in to meet deadlines in exchange for taking time out when we are quieter.

We are a family business that was founded in 2005. We have two offices but the role will be based from the Hayle office. Ultimately we are Chartered Accountants so we are highly professional in what we do and our clients expect a high level of service and expertise in the work we deliver and the service we give.
