Rachel Koerner – Business Development Manager

Why are you living and working in Cornwall?

Cornwall is where I can feel inspired, happy, relaxed, proud… It’s a place that brings out the best in people. I first came to Cornwall in 2000 and it’s always had a place in my heart. I think the most important thing my Falmouth degree taught me was Cornwall is my home. When I graduated I had a choice of career ladders I could climb. I didn’t know which one to choose but I knew the ladder had to be up against a wall in Cornwall!

What do you love about it?

City life tempted some of my friends but their work:life balance is crazy to me. I love hearing seagulls not sirens, seeing the sea not seas of people.  My commute is only tainted by seagulls peppering my car or jams of tourists wanting a little bit of what we have every day.  It wins over tube trains any day! I’ve been lucky enough to travel a fair bit but I’m never sad to be heading home to Cornwall. I love living amongst and working with and for creative, motivated, inspirational people and there’s a wealth of them here.

What would your advice be to someone considering a career here?

Where there’s a will there’s a way whatever career path you choose to take in Cornwall. I’m all for people trying new things, exploring new places and making the most of experiences presented to them- wherever in the world they may be. However, in Cornwall, you’ll be sure to find a fantastic business community, a wealth of support and fantastic opportunities; all in the most stunning of settings.

Nicky Hutchinson – Recruitment and Operations Manager

Why are you living and working in Cornwall?

I am working in Cornwall because once upon a time, I had to choose between Cornwall and the South East – there was no real thinking involved in this decision past the beaches, landscape and wide open spaces.

What do you love about it?

Just sitting with my children at Durgan beach recently, watching the sunlight sparkle on the water was a tonic.  I love the freedom and beauty that the Cornish environment provides.

What would your advice be to someone considering a career here?

Life work balance is so important – really consider what is most important to you.  With a plethora of good schools, an abundance of beautiful places and commutes that rat racers can only dream of, it is so important to not only love what you do, but love where you do it.
